Halloween!

So we survived Halloween with all it's fun, which included smiles, running, candy, temper tantrums, candy, a carnival, pirates and MORE candy! We started out the day with a pirate and a witch. Both the pirate and the witch went happily to daycare without any fuss. There they had a parade and parties and came home showing how much fun they had. Hence the green stain on the pirates shirt.

Once everyone was home we had a fast meal of McDonald's, a change of costume and were set to take the pirate and his tiger out to trick-or-treat!

We went first to our immediate neighbors, Dorothy & Randy. Dorothy runs the bible study I go to on Wednesday and Randy has watched the kids on Wednesday's when Papa Vaughn had to work or was gone at training. They are so sweet to the kids and made a special effort to have little guy snacks, like snack packs of animal cookies, for them upon my request, which made for a great start!!

Then we ventured on through the culdesac and around to the houses nearby. Big Boy was a pro! He knew exactly what to do, said please and thank you and was on to the next house. He was a boy with a mission and didn't even take the time to try to sneak a treat. Boopy on the other hand, figured out quite soon that by going to each house she would get a yum! Thankfully with the animal cookies as well as cracker treats from other wonderful neighbors, she was happily satisfied for a while. But then she got a lollipop! And oh how much better this was!

I was pleased to see that none of the decorations scared either of the kids. Our neighbors do a nice job of keeping them family and little kid friendly! Some neighbors were hanging out having a block party. Big Boy was mesmerized by the fire pit. He stood there telling us it was hot and trying to blow it out! Maybe a fire fighter in the making! :)

After our short jaunt around the neighborhood we returned home to fill the trick-or-treat bowl that we left on our doorstop for other trick-or-treaters and to leave to go to a church carnival. It was here that Boopy had a meltdown and showed her great ability for temper tantrums! Papa explained that we needed to move our yums to another bucket so we can leave and get more yums. Big Boy thought this was great and immediately moved his candy over with no complaints. Boopy, well, she ran away with her yum filled bucket and refused to give it up. Papa did manage to nicely get it from her and return the empty bucket for her to take with us. She promptly threw it and bawled! The bawling continued almost the entire way to the church. It was actually quite amusing!

Thankfully, the realization that she might get more candy yums hit her when we got to the church and there were a lot of other kids in costumes and Halloween sights to see. The church had the carnival set up as a Treasure Island theme so Big Boy fit right in other than he had had enough of the head piece so he was now a clean cut pirate. The got to play games, walk the plank, get pretty treasures and have a brief visit with our friend Mikayla.

As expected they were popped out by the time we got home around 8:30 pm. It was a quick bath and off to bed! All in all, a successful Halloween night! We hope yours was just as fun!

My hat is off to you guys for surviving and even thriving with two little ones on Halloween. It made me tired just reading about your adventures. Great pictures, too! (PS: Uncle David went to school as a "cowboy". His principal insisted this year that all the teachers wear costumes. His "costume" was a hat and a bandana--well, at least it was something!)
